IH T-340 DROTT

Hello,

Is this machine a decent machine for clearing atv trails and pushing snow? (4 cyl gas)I have light duty application for it.

Found one for sale, $5K, in good shape, but don"t know much about them.

Any comment would help.

Thanks,

i have one we spent ten years completely restoring. mine has the 6 way blade. i bought it for clearing rail buggy trails and when we got out of that it got restored. we still use it on a regular basis for landscaping jobs etc. this is a great little machine to operate and it will definately do its share. as with any machine, there are drawbacks. the trasmission is manuel(you must stop to change gears),the steering clutches are also manuel. most older machines are of any brand though. if previous owners have neglected maintenance, look for some of the following...most older machines have a worn out under carrage, the cylinders can have external and intenal leaks, the final drive seals and bearings can be shot, the steering cluches, ta or forward reverse can need help. having said this, my unit needed all these things when i bought it. with all its problems it still done what we bought it for. ive seen these crawlers in great shape also, it depends on its previous life. if you need more, or spacific info, send me an email with a phone no., and ill call you.

Hi,

This machine has 1220 total hours on it. At what hour range would you expect to start replacing parts such as clutches / brakes / pins etc???

again that depends on the privious owners. mine was owned by the army corp of engineers in florida. it had 2600 hours. the sand was hard on things. 1200hrs. seems low. if the machine runs and handles good, that seems a fair price.

For moving snow, the loader tracks are no good. They will slip. You will want one set up as a pusher with bigger cleats. It's a good machine. Those hours seem low. You can tell a lot by the condition of the undercarriage. If that's heavily warn, it can be a problem as parts like rollers are hard to come by.

I really like this small crawler and it is in good shape, but another dealer wants to sell me a 1975 IH 500E with a 4-1 bucket and rippers for a couple of thousand more. Running gear is 80+%, has a 3 cylinder diesel.

Just can"t make up my mind but I hear parts are hard to find for the T340.

Thanks,
