Hi:

I am fixing the main roller on this windrower/swather. I have the roller off the machine and now need to separate it from the drive pulley. Is this just a press fit? That is how do I get the bearing out of the roller to replace it?

Assuming by pulley you mean chain sprocket, it probably has set screws (Allen wrench) that lock it in position but will very likely require a gear puller to pull it off the shaft. The bearing will be an eccentric lock collar type also with Allen set screws on the lock collar. You loosen those and then take a punch at an angle in one of the holes a drive it to rotate it and unlock it usually drive it the opposite direction the shaft rotates if installed properly. The bearing will also require a puller or often it is just easier to torch it off. A 4” grinder and cut off wheel might be able to perform this task as well but sometimes there isn’t enough room. You only need to cut about 2/3 the way through the inner race then set a large cold chisel in the groove you cut and whack it hard with a big hammer. This will crack it and then it will release to be pried off the shaft.

Sorry I am not being clear.

It is a belt pulley that is connected to the roller which drive the table apron to bring the cut material to the center to form a wind row.

On the IH230 the pulley is connected to a plate which has a pin for the bearing. The bearing is in the roller so when the table apron is activated the roller spins the rubber canvas. Normally the bearing is press fitted in the roller. That is what I am trying to separate. Get the bearing out of the roller to be replace.

This is what is shown for the drive end of the table apron. Doesn’t seem to match your description.

Well done. That is what I was looking for.

The parts break down gives me a better idea of what I am trying to fix. Item 4 is what is broken. Specifically the support end of the roller. I can see now that I am on the wrong track.

Attached is a picture of the roller. The area in red is gone as well as item 2 the retainer. I had hoped to take the area in blue out of the roller and put it into a replacement roller (different machine) but the area in blue seems to be integral to the roller. This would mean my roller is not reparable unless I can find a used roller somewhere.

Glad I could help, greeting me once per thread is being plenty polite in my books. Hope the job doesn’t offer too much resistance, although hay equipment and resistance are usually synonymous.
