IH2606 Battery

Need to know what battery was spec-ed for this tractor.

The battery spec in the parts book is "Prestolite HS11-50 (12 volt) (gasoline engine tractors)." As I am fairly certain that Prestolite hasn't manufactured batteries in decades, I don't think you're going to find a useable one. I was unable to find anything useful through google for a source of a new Prestolite HS11-50 battery. I did find partial dimensions for the battery "10 15/64" long x 6 25/32" wide x 9 7 ..." which is a pretty good match for a Group 24.

Aha. Another 2606 owner. Don't know if you have an original box, if it had one to start with that can be measured, but I can set anything from a 31C to a group 65 on the base that bolts on top of the transmission. The hs11 was a 50 AH (amp hour) battery which by adding a 0 to the end is a 500 CCA battery. Closest size is a 24R unless you want to go bigger.

Tell me what you got going on with yours and what it has for an engine, loader, and hoe, etc. I have a lot of threads if you look for 2606. Right now I'm trying to take care of some other projects before I remove the crank for a regrind and check for other problems.

There is a battery tray, 14.75x7.25. I've had a 950/770cca Champion in there but it's dead (8" tall). I've never known what it was supposed to have for a battery.

Project: There was a short somewhere in the electrical system in 2021 and it's been waiting for me to have time and $ to fix it. It ran well before that. When I started taking things apart I discovered lots of corrosion in connectors any of which could have accounted for the short. It might also be between the solenoid and the starter motor. I bought it used in 2008, used it constantly and have never had time to do major work on it. It's been a great piece of machinery to keep going so long with so little maintenance aside from grease, hoses, minor welding. The hydraulic system needs a new pump and new seals for the pistons. The back wheel hubs are leaking. The joints on the backhoe claw and front scoop are really loose. Many things stick or are too tight that shouldn't be. Many things are loose (worn out) that shouldn't be.

Ok. I got mine in 2007. Post some pics. Does it have a diesel or gas? Book says it comes in diesel but mine has a c221 gas replacement engine which I believe came from a combine.
