IH350u oil pump

Pull the oil pump on the C175 engine out of the IH350U. Removing the bottom cover there was quite a bit of side to side play. Pulled out the driven gear and shaft.
Found about 0.025 of the driven shaft worn away right behind the gear where it goes through the oil pump housing. Expected to see a bushing in that housing but there was not.
So replace or repair.
First thought was to weld up the shaft then put it in the lathe and turn it down to spec.
Thought about using brass and braze the shaft and then turn it down with the lathe. Brass might be too soft.
Looking at used oil pumps and they about $100. Remanufactured are$460.
Thoughts?

An engine oil pump is not the place to try to find a cheap fix. Used may be fine but inspect carefully. JMHO

I would use braze to build up the shaft . There are some brazing rods used to build up to repair gear teeth ,so it does have good repair property. Select proper brazing rod. Or use general purpose rod still has good mechanical properties.
This is just a suggestion. Not seeing the shaft.
We have the capability to make a new shaft and repair the oil pump housing. install bushing in oil pump housing. So if you have a lathe you have the same capability to repair the oil pump successfully. Good luck , keep us posted , ask questions.

If the shaft was worn, the gears had freedom to wear the housing. The wear was also on the housing where you thought there should be a bushing. Finding a good used pump, is far better than attempting to fix a pump with more than one worn area. Jim
