I have an Ih574 gas, that needs a new battery. I know the battery is 12v, but how many cranking amps and cold cranking amps does the battery need

Welcome to YT forums and Parts ASAP. some of the correct answer depends on where you live. In cold climates, the heavest CCA battery that fits the holder/box dimensions is needed. If milder and never freezes 450cca might be just fine. Jim

Are you located where it gets CCCOLD, or in a warmer climate?

A basic rule of thumb is a MINIMUM of 2 CCA per cubic inch engine displacement (2 X 200), and the more the better, especially if it has to start in the cold.

We use grp 31's with the stud top and if you will ever go to them you will never look back on those lad posts with anything but disdain for them. Over tightened clamps cleaning posts and clamps all the time. Never are ready to work without a bunch of fooling around to make a connection. The stud top clean cable and around the stud with a wire brush grease and tighten done till you need to change the battery. Least maintenance arrangement with a full connection and never striped the threads on one yet and I tighten them down with a reasonable level. I suppose one could pull it out of the battery or strip it or maybe even twist it off. though I have never had one do that in 30v years. They run from 850 or so the 1000 CCA's and the biggest one will fit in the hood there going in from the top. I use the 1000 on ours with the diesel in central MI
