Can someone tell me if there is suppose to be a gasket that seals the drain screw at the bottom of the fuel sediment bowl? I have the the 239d engine.

On our 574 I don't believe they have a water drain on them. Our 674 has those pain in the CAV filters and would like when the filters are gone to switch to the spin on. For the CAV they are a pain to not tighten so the fancy junk glass bowl does not break. I changed one once and before I could stand up when checking for leaks it broke. My brother made 2 new cups from aluminum to replace the glass nightmares. As for a seal on the drain screws there usually is an o-ring or gasket washer for some kind of a seal.

my dad had a 684 and one day while it was running while we filled the planter one of the glass bowels shattered.there was a kit to change to spin on
filters so we changed it and never had any more problems

Im trying to figure out how to reply so bear with me.

I got the gaskets put on the drain screw. All the gaskets are brand new. Im not seeing any bubbles but its still wants to sputter at top end like it's fuel-starved but the bowls remain full of fuel. It seems like it is not getting full throttle even when its not sputtering. The gaskets greatly improved it from what it was but it is still not right. My fuel level is pretty low after it sitting and draining while messing with it. Im gonna add fuel tomorrow and try to bleed it again. I blew through the fuel line back towards the tank and it seems to be getting fuel enough coming from the tank to the filter. Im not sure where to go from here.

If you are still having problems with fuel flow. Check for flow out of the line at the tank by taking line off tank if good then check at filter then before pump. Guy from dad's church had a newer model of same tractor like an 84 series would not flow and would not start. I started at the tank and the fitting that went from the filters to the pump on the right side was plugged with some slimy crud in the elbow like fitting once out it ran flawlessly Just keep moving towards the pump with flow should run a full line. I am going to assume you have the spin on filters since you are asking about a water drain on the filters If not then recheck for the filter location if on top that is your fuel restriction. This would only apply to the CAV style filters with the glass bowl.

have the 2 filters on the right side that has the bolt through the filter Assembly and has the glass bowls with a drain incorporated into the bolt that goes up through the filter.

I replaced all the filter gaskets and bled the system. It is much better but, after running for awhile I had air showing up in the sediment bowl. I went ahead and drained the tank and pulled all the fittings out and checked them for a restriction. There is rust and stuff built up in the bottom of tank. The shutoff valve on the left side of the tank was not showing daylight through the valve when I pulled it out. I poked a small screwdriver up in the valve and still could see light coming through. I closed the valve and opened it back up and started seeing some light come through. I sprayed kroil in the valve and worked the shutoff back and forth and it cleared out. I never did really see anything solid come out of it. It seems it was restricted. Would this cause the system to pull air in under a load? What should I do about the grime in the tank?
