IHC 350 utility hydraulics

I have a problem with my IHC 350 utility hydraulics on the fast hitch.

From information I have gotten here and appreciate greatly, I know my tractor has a check valve in the valve bank to prevent the hitch from lowering.

It has just recently started lifting and lowering very slowly. I also have a loader on it and the lift cylinders work well and lift fast.

When I have it running and the hitch is dragging along I can turn the steering wheel slightly and the engine speeds up and the lift speeds up a little. The steering works well all the time.

I'm wondering if there is a check or pressure relief valve in the power steering that is hanging up and can be cleaned or replaced that would affect the hitch.

Appreciate the help as always, Bob

If the loader is operated by a front mounted pump, it is independent of the tractor hydraulics. The rear hitch being affected by steering is in
indicator that points that way. The Safety regulator valve is sandwiched between the hitch control valve and the reservoir housing. in it is a pilot
valve with a screen on it. if it is stuck, the system will act very strange. My guess would be there. Careful taking the lid off, it has a spring.
Parts 67 and 8. It is a bad diagram with no reference info. Sorry, IH parts changed there site. Jim

Thanks Jim.

The pump that I see is on the right side of the engine just below and to the front of the distributor. Then two lines go back to the reservoir under the seat.

There is a block under the main control spools with lines back to the cylinder on the hitch.

I have taken the main screen out of the seat tank and cleaned it. The lift cylinders for the loader work fine.

Is there a separate filter/screen for the hitch and or power steering that I should look at?

The screen associated with thi Pilot valve is at the pilot valve and is sometimes plugged, and sometimes collapsed. It needs the screen clean and OK.
The pilot valve if stuck in its bore will not move. This would prevent the valve from opening a port that blocks the return to the reservoir.
(creating pressure in the valve outlets to the hitch and auxillary ports (front valves if equipped) the fact that the steering causes some flow is (i
think) re=lated to the priority valve for steering being "in front" of the system to allow full time power steering. When that is dead headed by
turning the wheel all the way, the pressure is substantially increased. The flow you do detect may be through a .035 diameter pilot orifice in that
valve. I own a 350 U and have been inside it at times. I love the tractor. Jim

OK. Thanks a lot Jim. I'll take that regulator apart tomorrow and I understand the spring will take some care.

I've had this thing for forty years and not much trouble. I've got chains on it for this winter in Iowa and I can push snow better with it than I can with my 806 and no chains. I do need to put rear axle bearings in it. i hope to get to that before this next hay season. It gets a lot of work in the summer.

I'll let you know what I find in that regulator. Hopefully it'll be the fix for this time around.

Appreciate it to no end, Bob

Well, I got that thing taken apart, cleaned it up and stuck it back together. There wasn't anything that stood out in the regulator as a problem - no dirt or sludge and it really looked good as far as wear.

The lift did work better though/ But I let it run a little and the engine loading still pulled the rpms down about 300 rpms at idle. That part hadn't changed.

But I started tinkering with the shaft ends that have the settings for two way and single cylinders. When I slightly turned the one on the loader control lever the engine rpms went to normal. It was like it relieved the hydraulic pressure. I would get the same response when I turned the steering wheel.

Anyway it seems to be working pretty good now and I appreciate all the help.

Bob
