IHC Grain Binder

I have a bundle shield that came off of a tractor pulled binder, the name on the shield says MCCORMICK NEW IDEA. I am wanting to know about how old a machine this came off of and was it an IHC product or was it sold as part of the New Idea line

Our McCormick binder had New Idea on that cover, also said Made in Canada. The tool box lid had the old I-H-C logo stamped in the lid so I would guess it was a war time import (to England)

The Deering ground driven grain binder models before 1923 were the "Ideal" (1898-1909) and "New Ideal" (1908-1926) whereas the McCormick binder models were the "New Open Elevator" (1901-1925) and "Improved" (1911-1925). When the McCormick-Deering binders appeared (1923 on-wards) there was the model C (CM or CD depending on the use of the McCormick or Deerimg binding mechanism. This was later replaced by the enclosed gear model E (EM or ED) about 1938. I think ground drive binders ceased production in the US about 1948. The tractor binders were built in the US until about 1956

You guys that are thinking Idea need to look at things again as you are missing a letter as it is actually Ideal, an L on the end of the word. New Idea and New Ideal were two seperate companys and New Ideal later became part of International Harvestor Company and then came to be known as McCormick- New Ideal and then later just McCormick with the New Ideal dropped. The samw way Deereing was orignal a seperate company then things just came to McCormick Deering then just McCormick. Champion was also in the mix that later was just IHC.

New Ideal or Ideal was not a company name, it was a name that the Deering Harvester Company used for their grain binders and mowers, all horse-drawn at that time. New Ideal is totally different company, nothing to do with Deering, McCormick or International Harvester.

Deering New Ideal Mowers is the way the parts section is listed for the mowers in The No.29- HM Hay machines repairs catalog. McCormick-Deering, Mowers, Knife grinders,Rakes,Stackers,Sweep Rakes,Side Rakes and tedders, Side Delivery Rakes, Loaders, Tedders, Baling Presses,

International Harvestor Company
(incorperated)
180 North michigan Ave. Chicago, Illinois, USA

The rest is direct copy from the front cover of that parts manual.
And there is no date on it but it is before the machinery introduced in 1932 was out because it is nor in the book.
So where do you get your information that contradicts what the company put on their publications?

The New Ideal and Ideal were model names used by the Deering Harvester Company and they continued to be used by International Harvester. The parts books covered machines that were already out of production as users still occasionally needed parts and at the time the parts books were published they were still available. Ideal and New Ideal were Not companies within IHC, just a model name for instance like Mustang was made by Ford, or Farmall was made by International Harvester.
