IHC hydraulics.

IHC 284, yes I know, one of the foriegn tractors, but I still need it to work. Last week the hydraulic 3 point hitch worked fine. Come the weekend, it didn't work at all. Went to lift the deck, it didn't move. Moved the lever back and forth, the deck went the rest of the way to the ground and stayed there. Checked the fluid level, and it was a weird color, between coffee creamer and milk. I checked for leaks, but could find none. The pump was spinning so the rag joint wasn't brokem. I changed the fluid and filter, but the thing still won't work. I am lost from here, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

First beyond general hydraulic knowledge I know nothing about the system on that tractor. By looking at the parts diagram for it you are going to have to provide the following. Diesel or gas engine, 2 or 4 wheel drive, power steering yes or no? Serial number may also be helpful. Hopefully someone else with some experience with that model can help with your problem.

Roll pin at the pivot point for the handle??

Given the contamination of the fluid there may be multiple things wrong but have a look at the diagram in the link below .

Chances are that the o-ring seal for the lift piston needs replacing. It should be a relatively easy job.

Additionally, you probably should replace all the filters on the system. The milky colour indicates water contamination of the TDH fluid.

Checked the roll pin on the lift handle, it is intact.

Will pull that apart and check th O-Ring. Looks like 4 bolts removes the cover. I did download the drawings from Messicks. That will be a huge help. I suppose since the fluid is still milky I need to change it and the filter again, after I find the problem. Is there something I could flush the system with, before I put more fresh fluid into it?

There should be a way to completely drain the reservoir via a drain plug. I don't suggest using any flushing solvent as that can damage seals and o-rings.

In addition, if you remove the output line from the pump that will allow the fluid to drain the fluid from the supply line and the pump itself. It's messy and slow but effective.

Do you have a spin on type filter or is it more like a strainer? If it's a spin on type you could drain it and probably re-use it since you probably haven't put any time on it. The milkyness is water in the TDH fluid.
