IHC Part Needed!!! M626

Conversiont

New User
Need IHC part M626. It is a bull gear for a horse drawn sickle mower. I have a conversion tractor that was made by combing a 1927 Model T Ford with an IHC sickle mower (pretty sure it is a New Ideal). Setup works well, but while mowing today, the bull gear shattered - cast arms broke. Part number on it is M626. Please reply to Ron at [email protected]

For your information that part number would not be for a New Ideal mower as I do not think was connected to McCormick at that time. That is the part number for Spur gear, 67 tooth (works with M633) and uses pin Q630 and was for the New 4 and vertical lift built 1896 to 1915 or the New Big 4 built 1898 to 1915 and book says simular to M1405 Main spur gear, 67 tooth (works with M1406) uses key Q16 and used on No. 6 & No. 6 vertical built 1914 - 1920 and the Big 6 built 1915 - 1920, Was replaced in 1921 with MA1405 for both the N0. 6 and Big 6 and used a tapered key way and uses key Q54 and pin Q770 and these mowers were replaced with the No. 7 that I would have to look for a different book to find years for it and the No. 9 that replaced the No. 7. It was not used on the one horse mowers built 1902 to 1915. I do not know if Jerry Hilty has any of those parts mowers left or not. If I think of it when I see Truman Troyer again I can ask him if he has any ideas where one might be. But with the upgrades you might have to upgrade the axle. Truman could modify the present axle to take that key and I do not know differences in pins. Anything older than the No. 7 is not wanted any more and so most have gone to scrap. The No. 7 and No. 9 mowers rebuilt to good field condition , no paint, retail in the $1,500 range, painted could reach the $2,000 figure and this is for use. The book does not go into detail what each key or pin is like. I think either of these gentle men could make a new axle that would work with the updated gears. Where are you at as these people are in Indiana. I might be able to find other possible places as well. The model would be cast into the frame.

Thank you for the replies and the information. Frankly,
I think it is a combination of McCormick Deering and IHC systems. I had a drive pinion go on it about a year ago and it had a part number of D703 (which I was told was a New Ideal). The spur gear is cast and it came apart in about 8 pieces, so I think a repair is out of the question. I need to find on M626 to replace the shattered one, but would like to find a couple of more to keep on the shelf.

Here is what is left of the bull gear that disintegrated - pretty much beyond repair. Another picture of her in action. I've been collecting Model A and Model T Ford doodlebugs and conversion tractors for over 30 years and she is one of the most unique machines I have ever come across.

That is not at ALL "beyond repair", especially if you have all the pieces.

Guess you didn't look at the link I posted to the photos what George md has done with cast iron repair, and there's likely other shops around the country just as capable.

An alternative would be to make a steel hub and machine the cast iron gear to fit it.

I could even do THAT!

Bob - I did look at the website and it is impressive. I was wrong - bull gear probably could be saved by someone like George. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to send the pieces out; tractor needs to be moved from where it was towed to and put up for the winter. I was able to source a replacement gear. Thank you to everyone on here that answered my posts - you guys are great!!!
