Article in Belleville, IL. News nnalert newspaper.State that the majority of Illinois sheriffs view dwindling mental health services rather than ineffective gun control as the moving force behind violence in the nation's communities

Any way you can post a link to that article? Would sure like to read it...
Believe the Indiana Sheriff's put out a very convincing statement recently too.

I checked and found nothing in the Belleville News nnalert web page. this originated in THE PANTAGRAPH newspaper Bloomington, IL.

A comment on O'Reilly summed it up pretty well-

The populations of Chicago and the state of Utah are fairly similar. The gun laws in Chicago are far more strict, and there are far more guns in Utah than Chicago. Yet the rate of gun killings is 10 times greater in Chicago than in Utah. It ain't the guns, folks. . .

James heard this (don't know where or who) but its a great analogy.

"Blaming guns is like blaming your knife and fork because you're overweight."

All immaterial. The 2nd amendment is not about violence, hunting or murder, this was all dreamed up in the warped minds of liberals. What he 2nd amendment is about is keeping the government at bay.

At this point in time instead of arguing about the elimination of privately held "assault" rifles we should be considering the need to again legalize privately held machine guns,, IMO.

Then there's that school district here in Michigan that's deputizing teachers so they can carry in the classroom.

Here's what one school district in <a href="http://vanzandtnews.com/van-isd-policy-draws-strong-reactions/">Van Zandt County Texas</a> has planned.

lets face it guys, when we do away with institutionalized mental health facilities, most of these folks wind up on the streets.lots (and by no means all) of them do wind up commiting serious crimes and acts of violence.a large percentage wind up homeless and unable to afford their meds and when they suddenly stop them they are even more likely to turn violent.it comes down to the politicians looking bad because they pick on these poor sick folks,or they think that in some way, if they dont see a firearm they wont be violent. the truth is they are not around guns in a institution and they are still violent, and turning them loose just compounds the problem for them and society.mental health is the real issue, but as long as we have the ACLU and folks of that nature very little will be done in that regard.to lock someone away because of mental issues is percieved to be violating their civil rights. to my way of thinking , putting them in prison after they commit a crime is even worse.I think they would be better off in a environment where they could recieve help rather than a prison where their violence and illness escaltes even more.to me its sort of like trying to build a bucket your milk cow cant kick over, when its much easier and makes more sense to put the kickers on the cow so she simply cant kick.

I read a statistic that 75% of all the murders in the USA are caused by gang bangers. Yep, losers selling drugs and shooting each other.
It aint us guys in the rural areas, And like Butch in Ohio puts it, the 2nd amendment is to keep the government in check.

Actually guys, the 2nd Amernd has 2 purposes, or you could say it addresses 2 issues. The first is to ensure that the citizens are armed in case the need to defend themselves from a threat occurs. This can be gov't, a burglary, a rapist, whatever. The other part is to address the needs of an armed militia. http://www.saf.org/journal/5/5_hardy.htm Read up, it's only recently that people couldn't make sense of the 2nd Amend.

"The second amendment to the Constitution had two objectives. The first purpose was to recognize in general terms the importance of a militia to a free state. This recognition derives from the very core of Classical nnalert thought; its "constituency" among the Framers was found primarily among conservatives, particularly Virginia's landed gentry. Indeed, prior to Virginia's proposal, no federal ratifying convention had called for such recognition. The second purpose was to guarantee an individual right to own and carry arms. This right stemmed both from the English Declaration of Rights and from Enlightenment sources. Its primary supporters came from the Radical-Democratic movement, whether based among the small farmers of western Pennsylvania or the urban mechanics of western Pennsylvania or the urban mechanics of Massachusetts. Only by incorporating both provisions could the first congress reconcile the priorities of Sam Adams with those of George Mason, and lessen the "disquietude" both of the Pennsylvania and Massachusetts minorities and those of the Virginia and New York majorities. The dual purpose of the second amendment was recognized by all early constitutional commentators;254 the assumption that the second amendment had but a single objective is in fact an innovation born of historical ignorance."

James they may have a problem with State law. It can be researched in the TX. Penal Code which is online, but I think schools are included in the places the state restricts fire-arms, drugs, and cell phone operation while in a motor vehicle (at least), and some it matters not whether or not the carryer has a concealed weapons permit.

Surely however, at least one member of the County Commissioner's court would have researched the topic or known of the State's position.

However, laws are written around here: Thou shalt not spit on the street. Punishment bla bla.

Unless:

You have the flu
Your grandmother gave you permission
You are talking your dog for a walk
Bla Bla
Loop hole for the guys with expensive lawyers to sneak through

And it matters not whether or not you knew the law. Excuse is "Ignorance of the Law is no excuse". Well scuse me, but before the www, a person would have to go to Austin and look it up in the library if you were capable of reading the law as presented in legal gobble-de-goop that only the brethern can read. Now who has the time or resources to do that.

So it's yes your honor, I passed gas, but I'm sorry.

The judge says ok Joe Blow, your sentence will be:

Parole with a hand slap,
Community service for x hours,
A fine
Internment
C and D above

But that's the law as lawyers write it. Was like that long before I got here and will be here long after I depart.

What's scary is that our system is supposed to be the best in the world. That's scary, for me anyway.

My 2c,
Mark
