IMAC computer batteries?

My IMAC computer has a mouse that I keep plugged in to the charger when I am not using the computer. I recently found out that the keyboard also runs on a battery, and it can be left unplugged for periods of time and still work ok. My question is: how can I replace the batteries in the mouse and the keyboard?

Top of the keyboard look for the cap on the end with a slot in it. Use a flat screwdriver, coin, butter knife etc to remove the cap to replace the batteries.

Bottom of mouse. Turn the power off. Unlock the cover by sliding the lock (rectangle shaped slider) to unlock. Remove the cover.

The batteries can last a few years in a keyboard or mouse. I have an old Acer desktop I bought around 2008 running Vista I use with some old programs I like. I have changed the batteries twice in 17 years.

The bottom of the mouse black (elongated oval) is supposed to unlock the bottom cover (piece of sheet metal) but it doesn't always spring up. Most of the time I have to get a sharp pointed something to lift the corner as I move the black button to the open position. When you turn off your keyboard or mouse (as you should do before you attempt to change the batteries) the screen will tell you that you don't have one connected. When you get the batteries replaced......and don't forget to turn the devices back on the devices, the screen will tell you connected.

If you forgot, the mouse on/off is top right on the rear with a green window showing from under the switch when the mouse is on. The keypad on switch looks just like the battery cover (without the slot) at the opposite end of the keyboard with a little green light that appears on top rear of the KB when its on.

The early Apple Magic Mouse used AA batteries as mentioned above with an access door to replace them. The later/newer version has an internal lithium-ion battery that recharges through a Lightning cable or USB-C (again depending on how "new" the mouse is). These latter ones should hold a charge for several weeks before needing re-charged. I use one of the lightning plugged units on my work computer. The mouse is several years old now and still maintains a good charge.

For those adventurous, it is possible to replace that battery but it's not exactly a task for everyone.
