Anyone else have a story of something you bought that had a problem right after you bought it? I bought a JD 5020,and had a trucker haul it to my place, with a 18 ft disk, about 50 miles. On one of the first disking jobs the transmission input seal started leaking. I had it hauled back to my shop. I split the tractor and replaced the seal. A few jobs later the right axle puled out of the diferentaL Another have it hauled back to my place. I bought a used 79 Buick, on the way home the transmission stopped working. What is your breakdown story after the money changed hands? Stan

bought a 2004 freightliner. drove it off the lot and there was a load bang clunk noise. couldn't figure it out. drove it home 2 hour drive. couldn't get to 60 mph for at least 10-15 miles. 60 was max I ever got to. drove to the field the next day to take a trailer load of bales 6 miles and get it emptied. got that done at 40MPH max and it puked out the antifreeze. Managed to get home 1 hr drive and the water pump is shot and possibly turbo,. this is with a rebuilt engine and new starter new clutch new batteries new tires. that is what they told me. I haven't moved it in 2-3 months and have a winter project I didn't want. oh well, some days are like that.

I bought 2 solar Christmas lights on a stake. Neither worked right the second night. The green one flashed all the time, the red one never got as bright. I took them back the next time I went to Dollar Tree, and exchanged them. Those 2 work right. $1.25 ea. They probably won't work next year, but I am fine with that....James

A Herter's 357 revolver. Wouldn't shoot straight until my buddy cast some .359 bullets for it. Still had one chamber that was a flyer. Kept that one empty under the hammer. Sold it this summer. steve

My 4020 in the photo to the left...I bought it, brought it home thinking I could use it for this season without doing anything to it...but then realized the engine was toast (I believe it had been dusted) and it had a wheel seal gone bad, so after repairing those to not so small items it has become a decent machine.

Got what I thought was a deal this spring on a Woods 6' finish mower. It looked pretty decent. When I got it home and checked the gear oil it was empty. I put in all I had, but not enough to fill it. Next morning all the oil was on the deck and the floor. Turned out the seal was shot. Neighbor who has tons of experience with pumps took it apart and said it looked like it had come from the factory assembled incorrectly. Guy I bought it from apparently did not know enough to have it fixed. There was evidence of oil all over the deck. When I got the blades off to sharpen them they still had the factory edge. He must have used it once or twice and given up. I eventually got the seal replaced and it worked fine the rest of the summer.

Bought a nice running 11 year old Pontiac Grand Prix from a relative of the Wife. Drove it around our farm area for a few months til I decided to put it on the road. Bought the plate and insurance and the next day I went to drive it to work and it would not start. Very hard turning over. Had it towed to a garage we used and it was there for a week or so. The mechanic called me and said "I don't know what is wrong with it." He had about twelve hours into it and three different parts and sensors and it didn't change a thing. So about $700 later it came back...I recovered $290 when I scrapped it...

Story of my life lol, I just bought my son, who turns 16 in a couple of weeks a truck, got it home and had to change a vent door actuator, cam shaft sensor and starter in the first month. Had to put it in the shop for a wiring harness issue. Just put a idler pully and water pump on it, and now the radiator is leaking. And it has a exhaust leak that I am going to have to address along with new shocks.

Also dad bought a 83 F350 dump truck brought it home used it one time and now it will not crank. I am not a Ford man so gonna be fun trying to figure it out to see what is going on with it.

That's called "shipping fever." Even if you had a chance to flog and thrash on a piece of equipment before buying it and find no flaws, the moment it goes on a truck and gets moved to your place, it will suddenly develop several major problems.

Cousin bought a painted up 4630 JD, first day in the field the tractor had a knock. Found the top piston rings on top of one of the pistons, was just that worn out or ether from previous owner. Seller machinery jockey said it was overhauled, nope just painted up, when I was tearing it down, found that the pan was never off and original bearings.

I got stranded on I65 225 miles from Terre Haute. The VW bug dropped an exhaust valve. The valve stem broke in half. Locked up the engine. Got a ride back to TH.
Got a tow bar and pulled the car back home. Put in a new engine in the car and sold it. My last Bug. VWs were hard of valves. You were suppose to adjust the valves every oil change which was about every 1500 miles. VW had no oil filter.
At best the 40 HP VW got 25 mpg. My 310 HP car gets way more than 25 mpg. More comfortable and it has a heater and AC. The AC in the VW worked only in the winter and the heater worked in the summer. LOL.

Bought a golf cart about a month ago to haul senior family members from the guest house to the main house for deer season. Owner said the batteries were '22, strong & held a good charge. Well, they won't last 24 hrs. without a recharge. To my surprise, 6 replacement batteries cost about $1500.

Probably to late, but try hydrogen peroxide. I have 8 of these in my electric truck that are 8 years old and doing fine. A coworker's husband (who worked for Chrysler) bought a new Dodge pickup off the local dealer, and, as he started to drive off the lot, the transmission failed. At least he didn't have to tow it back to them

Peroxide is water with an extra oxygen H2O2, I'm not sure what the extra oxygen will do to improve a battery's life.

My hair doesn't turn blond when I take a shower. Try washing yours with the extra oxygen.

On big cart batteries, I do 2oz per cell per year (1oz on car size). Been doing it for 25 years and pretty much have doubled my lead acid battery life with no down side. Good luck.

I bought a new 1987 Ford Taurus that quit before we got out of the lot the first time. After it was fixed we didn't get across the first lane of traffic leaving before it broke down again. That time they had some kind of issue with the lift in the shop and dropped it and smashed the side in. They offered us a good discount and lifetime warranty if we kept it, so we did. That was a huge mistake. The third time I had to walk because it broke again I walked to the closest dealer and that was the last time I saw it.
