Inframe vs. Regular overhaul

I"ve been looking for an engine rebuild kit for a Farmall H, and some are listed as "Inframe" and others are "Basic." Then some are listed as "Basic Inframe." Can somebody tell me the difference between "Inframe" and a regular kit?

If you know absolutely for sure that the crankshaft is 100% O.K. and does NOT need to be reground, then you can use the "inframe" kit.

If the crankshaft needs to come out, then you need the "major" kit.

The "major" kit contains a 100% complete gasket set.

The "inframe" kit contains basically an oil pan gasket, head gasket, and valve cover gasket.

You really do need to tear down the engine before ordering a kit. Do a thorough inspection, measure the crankshaft with a micrometer, etc., and then you will know which kit to buy.
