Is it worth changing injectors in a john deere 70 to the 830 injectors with keeping the same pumps or won't it make that big of difference. I also want to put a dry air filter on and wondering how much work it is.
 
The injector tips must be matched to the piston combustion chamber. if you change to the wrong tips, it will hurt, not help. Changing to the big pumps will help if you can get your hands on a set.
 
I have done about what you are going to do but I have not fired it up yet.I got a late 720 [same as 730,830]set of pumps.I sent them to 2 cyl diesel shop along with my 70 injectors. He updated them to a 730 style tip along with other mods.He rebuilt the pumps and made them capable of supplying all the fuel this thing can injest. Actually I think they can stock. I changed to the 720-30 piston.From what I understand you will gain some using the 70 piston with the 30 series pumps but more with the 30 series piston because of the bowl shape.I had 830 I&Exh valves put in.Got a modern spin on fuel filter.
I gutted the air cleaner and stuck a large cylinder type K&N [Dry]on the end of the air inlet under the grill.Will start it in spring
Some will say good or bad about Roger but I have had good luck with him in the past,very helpful,price etc...
 
13mm pumps are more common than the R,70,80 and early 820's 10mm pump. And cost the same to rebuild.
Six hole 12 thou dia tips.
Never tried it but pumps up to 16mm from old British stationary diesel engines. Are supposed to bolt in.
 
the 10mm pumps will not have enough volume for the 830 injectors. you will be better off staying with the 70 injector tips. unless you move up to the bigger 13mm pumps . then you will need the 720-730 tips . Luck Paul

I converted my 720 to spin on filters also. I got a filter head from a late 3020. It is mounted in the stock location, and had to bend new fuel lines.

the mixing bowl in the piston has to be matched to the spray patern of the injector, i had my late modle 720 injectors milled and honed and the crack pressure jacked way up with the 13 mm pumps and cut delivery valves, smokes less than a buddy's 70 who has less horse power. fuel is nothing if its not sprayed in the right spot at the right atomization. have your pumps flowed with your injectors, for a matched set as well. you want the power on the track, not in the air.

do you know what the bosch number was for the pumps? exact engine they were in? i would like to do more research on the 16mm pumps.
