Inline injection pump to rotary

I have a 7000 that has a bad injection
pump. Was wondering how difficult it is to
switch from an inline minimec to a rotary
cav. Besides the obvious parts is there
anything that I should know about? Thank
you.

Besides the pump, you'll need a timing gear and injector lines.
I dont think Ford used a rotary pump on any models bigger than a 5000 until the 40 series, so I dont think you'll find a rotary that will be set for proper fuel delivery for a 256 turbo. Not that it can't be done... it just won't be an out-of-the-box bolt it on and go.

I have always thought the Simms pumps were pretty darn tuff. I bet 20% of those I see never had the oil changed. The other 80% had water, or nothing for lube. 80% with little to no oil, but most still worked! They might have been sick, but still were not locked up. Any pump that will take the abuse that the Simms get from lack of service and still be repairable, or still working gets my vote to keep. Simms pumps ARE NOT expensive to repair and will out last you, if you change the oil in them every year. Take the top oil fill plug out and add a vent to it. This helps get rid of condensation. The money and labor it will take to convert over to a CAV pump will more than cover any repair needed to be done to your inline Simms. Al
