Installing a Std PTO on a 530CK question

Got a bit of a surprise today when I tried to install a standard PTO on my 530CK, I thought you just; pull the end cover, slide the PTO shaft in and bolt up the PTO, NOPE, there a plug in the way! Can you pop the plug out and install the PTO without having to split the tractor or install additional seals???

Thanks, Glenn

I found the part number and description for the plug in the 530CK parts manual, it"s part number 41-24 and it"s called a "PLUG - Rear mainshaft" in the "Transmission shaft and gears" page. The diagram shows the plug in the front of the "Oil Seal - rear", which in turn looks like it goes into the "Housing rear oil seal". Just looking at the picture I would guess that I need to split the tractor to remove the plug but don"t need any additional seals or anything on the PTO shaft. Really would like to put the PTO on if I don"t have to split it to do so, can someone take a look and hazard a guess? Thanks Glenn.

Your question as to whether a pto can be installed depends on a couple things, at any rate the type input shaft to the pto would vary depending on Standard drive or Torque converter. A seal retainer and seal has to be added to the rear of the sliding gear shaft to keep the oils from transferring. I, and I'm sure others, hesitated before entering this discussion because there are a few things that must match before this can be done. The parts needed and the way the tractor is equipped must match and we don't have the info needed. You need to get a parts book for your model and match the parts to the tractor combination you have, there's no one size fits all. mEl

Thanks mEl for the response, I new I was doing some wrong with my post, I naively thought it was a simple yes/no question, but I also thought/hoped that installation was a simple pull the back plate and bolt it on operation. Let me fill in the details:

* 530CK standard clutch, 8 speed, with shuttle
* vintage unknown, no serial numbers on anywhere
* the PTO and shaft came from a 470
* based on limited information from searching the internet, it looks like all 530s and 470 used the same shaft

I really appreciate the help, Glenn
