Installing ammeter NAA

I'm installing an ammeter on my 6V positive ground NAA. It doesn't currently have one. I was thinking of running the wire from the BATT (top) terminal of the voltage regulator to one side of the ammeter and running the other side of the ammeter to the connection block (side that is made hot when the key is turned on). Will this work or is there a better method of wiring?

Thanks

An Ammeter should be the first thing between the battery and the remaining electrical stuff except the high current to the starter motor through tha starter relay (solenoid). so find the solenoid, and there will be two large terminals. one from the battery, and one to the starter. The battery connection should have a smaller but substantial wire going up to the panel. the amp meter should be in series with this wire, so replacing the terminal at the relay with a new 10 gauge wire, running that wire to the left most terminal of the ammeter, then running the wire you removed to the other terminal on the meter with a smaller terminal end to fit the ammeter stud. (If the meter reads charge with the lights on not running, reverse the meter wires so it does.) use shrink tubing on the terminal ends to keep them from corrosion. I think your way only reads generator output, and not ever discharge. Jim
