Installing crankshaft and camshaft

Well here is the rest of the story - My 1950 "A" had a problem with oil and the tractor seized. I disassembled and removed the pistons and crankshaft. Lots of gouge marks on the crank on the #1 piston side.
SO not I have a new crankshaft ready to go back in.
THE PROBLEM I face is putting the crankshaft in place and in time with the camshaft.
The shop manual I have is NOT real specific or illustrated. The first line says to mark the cam shaft gear and crankshaft gear to show relative position when reassembly.
Well THAT would have been nice to know BEFORE I took things apart!!!
SO now are there any books or literature available to show how to do this job??
And websites you can direct me to would be appreciated or if you have materials you can copy and email me??

I can put it together but would like to know the timing is correct before I try to start it!

In addition I think they are in an odd spot as in not when at TDC or anything like that. Look real close to where they might be hidden in behind where the rod journal starts to go up.

Well after lookin close with a good bright light, I find a dot on the crankshaft gear and a V on the camshaft gear.

I am going to presume they must go together to be right.

Are there any tricks I should know about installing the crank and camshaft??

Only trick I do is high light those marks with chalk or something to make them easy to see to double check them after install. I'd also put new cam bearings in as those models they seem to be bad in them.

A degree wheel and a dial indicator will ensure the cam is properly timed .
Was the old worn cam re-installed without being re-ground ?
