Installing JD "D" hydraulic pump

I have installed a hydraulic pump on my 1949 JD "D". Now that the pump is on.... I am having trouble timing it. I did the installing the mag procedure outlined on page 33 of the owners manual with no luck........... What I was wondering can the pump be installed in the wrong position? Should OR can it be rotated forward or back like when installing the mag. ( the tractor is not here for me to look) This would make the timing procedure more difficult. Thanks to the man that helped me last time & thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some advice on this now.

The pump can not be installed in the wrong position. The slot in the mag end of the pump shaft is
horizontal when the slot in the end of the governor shaft is horizontal. Are you sure you had #1
cylinder at TDC when you put the mag on?

Turn engine over in direction of normal running/operating with #1 Spark plug removed (Fly wheel side). As compression is felt rushing from spark plug hole take note of marks on FLYWHEEL as per picture, as well as MARK on side of engine Crankcase. They need to line up, as per picture:

Turn MAG over in direction of rotation until ROTOR points to # 1 high-tension lead inside MAG. Mag drive should look as per picture:

If you have the OIL PUMP on incorrectly you shall have to remove the OIL pump and check to see why the OIL PUMP is not lined up properly for the Mag......possibly OIL pump is not lined up with GOVERNOR DRIVE?

I did find a Governor drive that had to be removed and turned as per picture: There was not enough adjustment in the slotted mag drive to time the MAG.

Here is how I did the timing.. When I feel pressure coming out out of the spark plug hole on the fly wheel side.... I then turn the fly wheel so the LEFT HAND IMPUSE PUNCH MARK lines up with the mark on the tractor. The slot in the HYDRAULIC pump is then horizontal. The mag on the "D" has the wire openings horizontal instead of up & down. I then put a wire in the right hole ( looking towards the mag) When it sparks the mag is horizontal. I then mount the mag & rotate it to the front of the tractor. I then rotate the fly wheel on complete turn. Then slowly rotate the mag toward the back of the tractor until you hear the impulse. Connect the plug wire on the fly wheel side to the right side of the mag. What Am I doing wrong. I have tried this more than once. I spin the engine with the plugs out and the plugs are sparking.
