installing new fuel gauge

I ordered a new fuel gauge and sender for my 730 gas. Old one is out and new basically installed. I ran a ground wire from ground terminal on gauge to a fastening screw on sender unit and also to a bolt on framework so all is grounded but I get no movement on the gauge. Any ideas? I have juice in the battery and power going to ignition switch. I guess now I need to make sure there is power to the gauge and then make sure the ground to the frame is good and clean. Thank you for any ideas

I always bench test the gauge and sender before installation. That way you can move the sender arm and determine if everything is working. A good ground from the tractor to the sender and to the gauge is critical. Make sure the polarity to the gauge is correct! Reversed polarity will fry the gauge.

Thank you for your insight. I started doing some checking and testing today. I see the power wire for the gauge comes from the bottom terminal of the porcelain resistor on the lower dash panel. There is power to the top terminal but appears no power coming out. There is a new wiring harness installed. I better look up the wiring diagram to make sure it is all hooked up correct. I assume so as a rebuilder installed.
