Installing sleeves in a M Crawler

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some Pointers on installing sleeves In my 1938 M crawler.

Do I need any type of sealer around the two O-rings? And if so what type ?

Also do I install them flush with the block or let them prtrude slightly ?

Take care and Have a Great Weekend

you wire brush the block were the orings and top of the sleeve set--- over and over. THen take the sleeve and set it in the hole without the o-rings. It should basically drop in the hole. IF not, wire brush more. AFter everything fits, you put the o-rings on the sleeve, put a little soap or vegetable oil on them and "push" them in the hole. Dont twist, just push. THE sleeve will s tick up a few thousands and the head gasket will crunch it down and seal. I put a very small bead of RTV inder the top lip of the sleeve prior to install. Some do this, some dont.

You need to make sure that area where your o-rings are installed needs to be thorouly cleaned.
If there's a counter bored area at the top of the block where the sleeve sits it need to be cleaned too. I don't have a manual on your tractor, but I see some of these wet sleeves protrude from .003" to .007" above the block. You should check your manual to see what it recommends. Hal
