int 350 tractor

Went to look at a 350 international utility tractor. did these come out with TA. I couldn't find the lever on this tractor and when turned the steering wheel it moved 6/7 inches before it engages and then it was awful hard to turn. doesn't look to have power steering. so what could be wrong with that and how much cost might be associated with that.

I think they could be had with or without ta. The parts inside the steering box sound like they are worn pretty bad. I have a buddy with a 330 utility. His steering box components are shot. If i remember he said they were very costly and hard to find. His hasnt moved in over 12 years because of it, and the fact he doesnt really need it. I think they maybe had a worm gear type setup, but i could be mistaken. I would look for parts first.

A lot of IH utility tractors that once had loaders now have steering problems. My 300 had problems, starting with the splines wore off at the steering wheel. Its possible the steering can be saved with adjustments but it can be hard to tell without opening it up. They are a hard steering tractor with out power steering even when there isn't a problem.

If it has an "S" as a suffix in the serial number, it was possible to have a TA. If there is linkage and extra shafts on the left side behind the clutch cross shaft lever it had one at one time, of has one that doesn't work, or has one that works but id defeated. The steering wheel will be more or less like an H if not power steering (IIRC) and will have a round center with an IH Power Steering Logo on it if PS. Either way it will steer hard stopped/not running. if running it should be finger effort if power. Adjustment is possible to minimize slop, but power will have 4 inches of slop when stopped/not running. Jim

ive decided not to make them an offer. if it had power steering I might but ill keep looking. never have worked on a steering of any kind so don't want to start now. that tractor steering was as hard as I ever seen a tractor. thank for the info

those tractors have the worst steering of any of them right up to the 460. cost more to fix it than the tractor is worth, probably cant get parts anyhow.

My 350U has power steering and it works pretty well. I believe that is because it has had a backhoe since it was new. The backhoe is a Conomatic-Pippin and is HEAVY, which takes a lot of weight off of the front end?even when empty. It also does NOT have a TA as it doesn't really need one. IH was trying to keep a presence in the construction industry in the mid-50s which is why they had some of the 350Us set up with the backhoe.
