International 1466 spool valve

Hello, i have an international 1466 that i am re-sealing the spool valve that is under the seat with new o-rings. My question is when i removed the detent actuating pin that has the small o-ring on one end, it came out too fast for me to pay attention as to how it goes back in. Does the o-ring side go towards the spool or towards the detent balls? Also does anyone know what size the o-ring is for the pin or do you have to get the whole pin just to get a new o-ring. Thanks for any help.

It's called an unlatching piston.CIH has em.It comes with O ring already on it.Don't remember which way it goes but you can look at a parts diagram and figure it out. That's what I did. That teeny tiny O ring is usually why they leak.

The long end of the unlatching piston goes to the rear of the valve. When in use it extends past the three smaller balls so that it can push the larger ball against the spring pressure. When the large ball is moved it allows the smaller balls to move together and out of the grooves. That allows the centering spring to move the spool to the center position.

If you have a valve that uses the O-ring on the unlatching piston it has older parts that what came on a 66 series tractors. They all used a straight pin with separate O-ring, backup washer, and retainer, and there are two different sizes for those parts.

Last time I worked on valves some years ago , a local hydraulics shop had a supply of what must have been every size o-ring known to man. They had the tiny o-ring that you speak of. Believe it or not they also had rings in one or two sizes smaller even than the one on that IH pin. If your pin is good , there are places that have them so you do not have to spend $$$$ on the ridiculously priced pin and o-ring from C-IH.
