International 2444 Hydraulic Problems

I just purchased an International 2444 at an auction. I went and looked at it twice, and they started it on either and ran it about 15 seconds both times. It ran fine, and the 3 point raised and lowered fine, and the power steering turned great.
So I bought it at the auction, just for information, it had been setting in a building for 30 years untouched.
When I got it home, all that was keeping it running was an obstruction in the fuel line, it starts and runs great now.

However, the 3 point no longer lifts and the steering turns one notch at a time, feels like its definitely being assisted but is super notchy feeling when turning.
When you try to use the 3 point it wont lift, the engine labors, and the hydraulic pump squeals badly.
It didnt do any of this at the auction site.
It has 2 knobs on the hydraulic block under the seat, I dont know what they do, this is my first international tractor.
I turned the knobs some, but not knowing what they do, I didnt turn them much, this was after it started acting up, not before.
Now Im scared to run it on account of the pump being under a load large enough to make it squeal loudly.
I dont know where to start in fixing it, so Im hoping someone on here has some advice for me.
Any help would be great.
I will buy some manuals, but have to wait to get paid again, but Id like to have an idea on what is wrong with it and maybe check a few things.
I was wandering if it could have something to do with those 2 valves under the seat?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, knob by right hand when sitting on the seat is called the Isolating valve, when screwed IN it locks out the 3pt lift and attempts to divert the oil flow out the big plug in middle of the hydraulic control
valves in front of the seat. This is used for a remote cylinder or a front end loader, if there is no remote cylinder or front end loader connected to this plug it will dead head the hydraulic system and load
the engine when the 3pt lever is moved. NORMAL Operation, the valve is screwed OUT (anti-clockwise) for 3pt operation. The valve at your left hand is the 3pt lift rate, push IN and turn a half turn puts the
3pt in slow lift mode, OUT is in regular speed lift mode.

Are there any other hydraulic attachments on this 2444?

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense.
When the pump was acting like it was dead heading, that big plug you mentioned started to seep a small amount of hydraulic oil, like it was being directed there instead of the 3 point. I turned that valve on the right like a half turn, but not much, because I didnt know what it was. I bet that valve needs to be opened more or removed and examined. I quit running the tractor shortly after it started loading the pump, which was almost immediately.

The tractor now has no other hydraulic attachments hooked to it, well other than power steering. But you can tell that it had a loader on it and hasnt been off to long. Maybe they forgot open the Valve enough. Like I said, it has sat untouched in a building in the dry Im glad for the last 30 years. The family finally decided to auction all the farm equipment off.

Thanks so much, Ill check that valve as soon as possible, I left the tractor at my Dads since he has a shop and I dont.

But being that the plug you mentioned started seeping fluid, I bet that is the problem.
Thanks

Well, I checked the valve on the right side we were talking about, I opened it up anti clockwise as far as it would go. Same problem, pump is dead headed. So I took out that valve and the plug in the center and it all looked good to me, I saw no issues or trash or sludge in either.

I also removed a plug above the plug for accessories, and it had a brass rolled up screen which was clean. I tried looking in that hole and it looked like a ball was at the end of the hole and the screen fit over it. This ball, I could not move, dont know if it should or not, but it was stuck? Is this a problem? The rolled up screen seemed to fit on the ball and stay centered so I could put the plug back in.
What should I try or check next, it will be a week or 2 before I can order any manuals.
Thanks

I sent you my email by the email link on modern view, please let me know if you received it, if not Ill just post it, I also sent my phone number, feel free to call
Thanks

Sorry, I sent you the wrong email, I got the ending wrong, had it confused with my wifes email, mine ends in .com
Thanks

Are you sure you have enough fluid in the resevoir? Sounds similar to problems I have with my 2424 when I get low on fluid due to leaks. And one of those little wheels will shut off the 3 pt as noted. I hit mine with my foot once getting off and thought my pump was shot.

Tim

Thanks Tim for your reply. Im starting to think that it is fluid related, I filled the reservoir and it blew it all back out, Im starting to think that I may have a lot of air in the system or the hydraulic filter stopped up. Monday Im going to clean filter and fill to proper level. The system is so erratic, Ive gotten power steering to work, then had it just quit, and same for 3 point . Everything just works when it wants to then stops working. the squealing of the pump has pretty much disappeared. Just an occasional squeal, but nothing like when I first tried it, I am starting to think the filter could be clogged and the system is full of air. Ive got the 2 valves on the main block adjusted where I think they should be.
Gonna try and work on it Monday , Ill let you know what happens.
Thanks for the reply.

Hello. Would you be able to describe where the plug that has the brass strainer screen on the Ih 2444 hydraulic pump block? Thanks

Hello, see photo below from Service Manual, Plug #3 has the screen behind it. Read the NOTE in the photo.
