International 2444 quit running

My international 2444 has been running like a new one..I was hooking up a piece of equipment and it just died ..I tried starting it back but it wouldn't start I thought I crap I ran it out of diesel .but that wasn't it. It had plenty and to be safe I put more in the tank.tried starting it again ..no start..I used a squirt of ether and it fired right up.ran just a little bit and died again...and again it would not start .used a squirt of ether again and it fired up ran about 2 minutes maybe a little longer ..died again. What can I check to see if I can get it running... thanks

Is it getting fuel to and through the filters? One thing that like to happen to tractors these days particularly if they set a length of time. The low sulfur diesel allows algae to grow in it. This turns into sort of a black goo and plugs the tank outlet, lines and filters.

Return fitting out the top of the pump plugged?? With the fitting removed from the pump, see if it will start. Does make a little mess. If it starts then the flex ring is going to be the issue as the fitting (check valve) will plug again. Pump will need rebuild. Do as ( used red MN ) first though. Gotta have fuel.

Does your 2444 have a manual STOP/RUN pull knob? Check to make sure the pull rod is actually moving the lever on top of the injection pump.
Years ago ne of our neighbors had a 444 tractor that quit and wouldn't start again and the kotter key had came out of the rod in the lever on top of the pump and the lever remained in the STOP position. As others suggested fuel filters clogged.
