International 340 - Steering Problem

I have a 1958 International 340 Industrial tractor, with power steering. Issue is that steering will not turn left (with tires on ground); it will turn right with no issues. It will turn freely both ways with wheels lifted off of the ground, with front loader. When I try to turn left, it will bog down the engine and sometimes kill it. It had ben working fine, then the steering "jarred" and now no go left! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charles

check your spindle. maybe bad bearing or bushing causing enough friction with load on it it wont turn.

With the front up in the air, place a resistance to motion (or have someone pull to the right) on the tire front while turning left. Using your foot on the
right side steering arm at the box to push hard might also do it. If it locks up it is likely the gears. The spindle should not have any roller or ball bearing
to cause the issue. Jim

Came to post this exact same problem with my 300u. Yesterday for some reason it started getting hard to turn left. Right turn is easy and left is like no power steering.

Ok, I did the test. When lifted up , no ground resistance, turns both ways no problem. When I put resistance (friend holding wheel) and try to turn left, it acts like it is locked up and bogs the engine down. This happens in all quadrants of the turn position. When turning with no/little resistance; no point where it jumps like it is going by broken teeth on gears. I think the issue is in the power steering booster (maybe). Ideas as to what to do next? The sensing parts are in the top of the steering shaft just under the dash. The sensing unit directs hydraulic pressure from the safety and regulator
valve on the rear right side of the hydraulic reservoir (under the seat) to a cylinder on the right side of the steering box. This cylinder oushes and
pulls on a rack gear that assists the right steering shaft. The right shaft is geared to the left shaft (see diagram). three parts tend to be a
problem, one is the little pin that rides in the steering worm. Rear side of part 43 in the diagram sticking out little nub.
The second is the gears between the two shafts (part 44 is both parts) with broken teeth. The stubs of teeth can keep working until force is applied
then they can lockup. The third is the rack and pinion system from the cylinder, again teeth can fail. It is likely to be an internal issue, sorry.

Can an old shade tree mechanic to the work???

Any special tools needed for the repair??

Are replacement parts available?

OR do I need to send the tractor to the tractor doctor???
