Hello,
I have a 1961 International 340 Utility that seems to have a PTO issue. Issue is i have a bush hog connected and it spins, but slowly. As soon as any kind of resistance meets the blades the PTO basically stops turning or turns almost not at all. once resistance is removed it continues to spin, but again not fast enough. I have the engine RPM up to 18000, which shows on the tach that the PTO should be at 540rpm. I have done a "slo-mo" recording with my phone to check the PTO speed. i know this is not perfectly accurate, but i'm able to determine that when there is nothing connected to the PTO is spins around 380rpm. when the bush hog is connected it spins about half of this. maybe i should use a timing gun, sure, but this at least shows there is a problem. i suspect the PTO is slipping somehow.
My questions is how do i adjust this, if possible? i have the operators and service manuals and they appear to show and describe a different PTO unit than is on this tractor. perhaps at some point the PTO was replaced with a different unit? the handle is different, and the planetary and clutch types shown in the manual for this tractor are also both different. the handle locks to disengage the PTO, but no lock to engage. just unlock and pull up. not sure if i should be pulling all the way to go to the top of the lock. please see the photos here for what i have. any assistance would be great. I have had a lot of help so far from the forum, so i hope you all can help again.
thanks ahead of time.
