International 424 gas

I’m looking for recommendations on fuel pumps for an international 424 gas tractor. It has the inline style. I purchased one that is “factory” style cylinder type and it didn’t work very long. Went and bought a edelbrock in line pump with 2-3.5 psi and it worked great. Well I mowed with it for about 3-1/2 hour or more the weekend and I guess it deadheaded for to long and just burnt it self up internally. So I’ll looking someone who has had good experience swapping fuel pumps and it lasting or has any insight.
Thank you

Mr.Foss, welcome to YT! Automotive type gasoline electric fuel pumps for the most part are designed to dead head against the carb float needle. That is unusual to have two fail in a short period. Maybe I should ask what is the indication that they have failed? Are you certain nothing is blocking the flow of available fuel to them? That could definitely cause them to fail early. Any chance the electrical system is being overcharged leading to early failure of these pumps?

The flow of fuel isn’t an issue I removed and cleaned all lines after the first pump went bad. It flows out like a garden hose now the over charging could be a thing. How would I check that? Down under the steering wheel where the voltage regulator is? I just had the generator rebuilt in the last year and when I reinstalled it. I tested it and it was pushing out like 13v at idle I never check it running at 540rpm.

Just voltage on the battery terminals when running, anything below 14.3 volts would likely not cause electrical items a problem. With a generator it is probably less likely to be over charging. Where did you source the Edelbrock unit? Might have been a knock off.

Have you tried running it without a fuel pump? I believe the tank is above the carburetor and should free flow and make sure the cap is vented. If doubtful just loosen it up to try.

I assume that is an electric pump? I would try to replace it with the same OEM pump. Maybe that was your first try? "“factory” style cylinder type"? I would stick with that. Wondered for years what I would do if the pump on my 2424 went, but the original still seems to work fine. Although I hold my breath every time I turn on the ignition that I hear the clicking.

I believe the OEM pump works off the camshaft. Any chance that lobe is worn? Did you replace with a cheap aftermarket pump or OEM pump?

Yes it was an oem rep but it was only $40 but looks exactly the same as the 80 dollar ones. I understand

It’s pretty close seems like the carb is a little higher than the outlet of the fuel tank. But I read that it might not be able to keep up. But from the factory has a pump I’d like to keep it the same but if this is my next move for sure.

Thank you and I got the edelbrock from o'Reillys

When I got the tractor it had an external inline fuel pump. and every thing I can find online for this tractor calls for a fuel pump.

Just because it is from the IH dealer doesn't mean it is an OEM pump. An aftermarket pump could possibly be bad off the shelf.
