I have a international 460 gas 1961 can't get the engine to start i have spark at the plugs the timing appears correct, anyone have any suggestions will not even back fire or even act like it will start

Did you have the distributor removed? If you did, you may not have the distributor in time with No1 piston. Need to know that info. Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's any suction on your hand. Low suction means you have low intake manifold vacuum. Could be a leaky manifold gasket. I would do a compression check if there's not much suction. Hal

Ihaven't removed the distrubitor rotor button is pointing to #1 have took out #1 plug and turn over engine got compression blew thumb out of plug hole, will check intake manifold thanks

Make sure you have the plug wires on the cap in the correct firing order. The plug wires need to be installed on the cap in this firing order:
1-5-3-6-2-4

You also need to see which way the rotor turns so you can check the firing order. I would start
by removing No1 plug near the radiator and bring that piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Have a helper to slowly hand crank the engine while you hold your thumb over the plug hole. Once you feel compression drop a long plastic straw on top of the piston and then you watch the straw rise as your helper keeps cranking the engine slowly. When the straw quits rising your No1 piston should be at TDC on the compression stroke. Note which way the rotor turns. Your rotor should be pointing to your No1 plug tower.
Then check your plug wires to make sure you have them going to the correct sparkplug in the above firing order. Has the engine ever run since you've had it? Hal
