international 574

my friend has a 574 gas tractor, i did not get a chance to look at it , he says the pto does not engage, the lever moves freely, the valve goes up and down to specs, the power steering and brakes work, also the three point hitch goes up and dow, does the problem sound like the pto clutch pack needs to be replaced?

First I would check PTO clutch operating pressure and expect tp find pin, Key # 36 sheared.

Sounds like the PTO clutch is wore out need to take the
green new oil take the side cover off region they?re not the
role-playing out on the clutch to the shaft take the three bowls
out of the back and slide the shaft back then take your clutch
back in here somewhere off together and you?ll see how bad it
Pittsburgh app and everything checked your seal rings on
your shaft I seen a lot of new I don?t care if you check your
pressure not at the PTO clutch is out it?ll show pressure

I had a similar problem with my 656 took it all apart and replaced clutch disks and spacers. Put it all back together and still did not work. Found out it was one of the rods that engaged it had a broken weld on it. Fine ever since. So make sure all the linkage is actually engaging the PTO

i had a few minutes to stop by the friends house to look at the pto problem, seems like the pto spool , worked by the lever , does not seem to go down all the way in the mcv block , because it only gives about 3/4 inch travel when there should be 1-3/16 travel . i couldnt get into it to long , had to leave maybe be back there saturday . should i take the plunger out and see if there is anything holding it from going down all the way?

That is a common problem with the PTO engagement lever on the 54/74/84 series tractors, check for junk behind the seat interfering with the PTO lever, take your favorite penetrating oil and spray all the parts of the PTO lever and the parts that go behind the seat and sometimes you have to pop the boot of the MCV and spary the spool while working the PTO lever ON/OFF.

It s hard for me to work on my buddy s tractor with work and now hunting season has started, I took a quick look and the levers move the spool up and down, there s no obstruction with that , I did not do the pressure test , other than checking the pressure could it just be the pto clutch , or is the spool bad ?
