International 656 and 460

I have the possibility of buying an international 460 or an
international 656. Can someone tell me yes or no on these.
Thank you.

Depends on what you want to use them for. From what I have heard the 656 is a very good tractor. The 460 not so much but can be a good tractor for certain jobs and probably a lot cheaper tractor of the two.

The 460 would use less gas but have less Hp. The 656 probably would have a 3-point hitch. That 3-pt is a very good 3-pt. The 656 is bigger and newer with more features.

(quoted from post at 19:16:33 11/03/20) international does not have a row crop. it would be wheatland or utility.

Oh really? Sure looks like it says "International" on the side of this Farmall 656 row crop tractor to me:

International Harvester, often called International for short, HAS row crop and utility tractors. Many/most people call any tractor manufactured by International Harvester an "International" because that is who made them. This makes it necessary to ask for clarification if a user is talking about a Farmall or a Utility.

Have no hands on experience with the IH 656. I do know for heavy work the gassers do drink heavily. I have two 460s and maybe my mechanical skills are to blame for all my trouble I don't know. But they just seem to be problem children to me. Fine for light work but both drink more gas raking hay than my 560 does pulling a baler or haybine. Could be my 460s are almost as old as I am and just worn out old machines? But I would think the 656 would be the better tractor. A lot depends on what your planning to use them for. Plowing snow and a parade once a year either would work well. Heavy field work I would keep looking for something more economical on fuel. The 460 in my opinion does not have a lot of extra HP. Big tractor and ok for light work is about all I can think of to say about them. 460 works good on my manure spreader. The real question is what do you want the proposed tractors to do and how often? Good luck. John.

656 is by far the best choice.460 is 5 to 10 years older, has the old out dated type fast hitch(no 3 point was even available for a 4/560) and is just not as nice/good a tractor.Spend the extra money and get the 656.

ya it matters.is there a way of knowing if those 460 hrs are correct. cant just go buy what the tack says . if so that definitly raises its value.

dont matter what it says its still a farmall and probably says farmall in small letters like on my 560's. when going to buy parts you must
clarify , "farmall" for a farmall tractor. plus they always ask me, "is that international or farmall"

And then there's the International Utility Row-Crop 656 (also called a Utility Hi-clear). That's what I have.

As for the original poster's question, if that 460 really has the low hours indicated, it might suit him. It can be fitted with a 3pt adapter if needed. I have a Farmall 350 with fast hitch with a 3pt adapter.
