What is the engine oil pressure supposed to be on the IH 784 I have the low oil pressure light coming on after running the tractor awhile mainly will start to come on at idle then go out when throttled up

i would get a manual gauge on it and get the readings of the psi at idle and high idle. with a light a person is in the dark even if the lights are on. could be a worn out engine, so a post of engine hrs is of help. then it gives a person some info . and if a person told u 60 lbs you would still be in the dark with a light.

What is the local temperature and what oil is in it. A 10-30 oil may be too thin. 15-40 might help. A real gauge (of known accuracy) is a firm foundation. Jim

Gas or diesel will also be different oil pressure most gassers only run about 10-40 PSI unless a newer engine. Most diesels are closer to 50-75 PSI range some higher and some lower. IF you have some place in the 20-50 range would probably be ok for either one. A good gage would be your best information along with what oil you are using.

Well, it's supposed to be high enough to not trigger the low oil pressure light at any RPM, and the higher the better. The reason nobody puts an actual number down because you can waste a lot of time and money trying to achieve that number, for no reason. Some old timer mechanics will tell you 1psi for every 100RPM is enough.

I believe the light comes on at around 7PSI, so if it's working properly (they usually are), you've got problems. If the oil pressure is that low, a slightly thicker oil is not going to fix it.

Thought that series had a gauge. The light is for transmission lube pressure. Maybe time for a new hydraulic filter and fluid. My bad, thinking of 74 series. 84 series does have electric pressure switch and tellite for the engine. Like has been mentioned, install a manual gauge in the block where the electric sender is
