Internet Confusion

Anybody try to buy something online from Home Depot or Lowes today? I had something I wanted to buy and all kind of crazy stuff went on with several attempts, at different origins, on different computers were blocked. Then when you tried to find out what was going on, this AI moron started jibbering all sorts of irrevelant "stuff". Changed my mind and decided what I had was working just fine for the intended purpose.

I tried to buy a battery powered hand drill from Home Depot coupple of years ago.
I am certain I recognized the Home Depot logo on the site.
My bank blocked the purchace, turns out it was a scam site and the logo had Home Dapot on it.

If you were shopping actual products on their store’s website this probably wouldn’t have helped, but one never knows how far a scammer will go. With the right knowledge and software a shopping website can be duplicated pretty easily. Starting at “homedepot.com” by typing only that in your address bar takes you direct to their website just as an assurance your at the right website. This opposed to for example googling “paint brush at Home Depot”.

I was physically in a HD store. It wasn’t much better.

Seems like all these stores just DEI hire so nobody has a clue as to what they are doing and are just busy playing with their phone games or something other than what is supposed to go on. Sort of like trying to pay for fuel as a Flying J truck stop. dozen there to pay and only one working. With nobody knowing what they are doing.

After 35 years in the construction field it’s a challenge to listen to young or inexperienced sales dept help.
We had a case where a gentleman who made a career spinning records and reading news on local station retired and got a job at HD. Because he wasn’t 18 he was made head of tools.

On the scammers, I kept getting calls (I missed) from one of my doctor's office phone number. When I saw the missed calls I called the Dr.'s office (several times after several calls I missed) and asked what they wanted.........news to them!!! Finally I answered one the calls and this "thing" which/who had no comprehension of proper English grammar or ability to speak the english language started on this sales pitch for something....I hung up.

So.......here is a fraudster who has scabbed the Dr.'s phone number out trying to talk his clients into something as if your doctor is calling for it........folks, we have lost it!!!!!!!!!!@!!@

No help with the original issue.

As to the other comments, I am so thankful for our local Menards store. Their help sometimes knows more than me, their help is helpful, the store looks nice and inviting.

I went to a HD last year hadn’t been to one in a few years. Wow what a dark locked up depressing place that store had turned into! I don’t want to go back. The help looked grim and didn’t even look at me. If all the HD stores have turned into this, how sad.

I was at Home Depot yesterday. I bought several bushes, a light panel, and a welding mask. The help was friendly and knowledgeable, the store was NOT dark, and I enjoyed the experience.

@Texasmark
You didn't try to buy something that was advertised in an email you received from them and clicked the link in the email did you?

Nobody should do that, instead go to their website via your browser, never via an email.
No. I have an old room AC and thought I might replace it this year. So I asked the search engine for the store by name and air conditioners.....same request from both stores, just changed the name of the store. Got the replies from the search engine, saw the title supporting my request (in both cases), saw the name of the store.com above the listing and punched it in. Got through looking at the offerings and found one I wanted. Clicked on it to buy it and things just shut down. The subscript said that they had 2000 of this particular model (somewhere????).

I seriously doubt you were at a genuine HD or Lowes site. The sites cloned by an AI bot are really difficult to pick out. Whatever you do, do not put any CC infomation into one of thoe sites. That is the purpose of the AI site, to gather as much CC info as possible. It takes a sophisticated user to successful once you fall prey to having the fake site open on your computer. because your browser will try to return to that site in the future so be aware.

That's interesting information. Something seemed screwy. Buyer beware.

Lot of scam sites out there, I always go direct to the correct site, however in the last year or so both the Home Depot and Lowes mobile sites have become all but unuseable. The "desktop" site on a real computer mostly works ok though.

I've had the same experiences with the mobile versions of those sites. Maybe works better for those with the latest, fastest, smartest most $$$ phones, I dunno, but the sites load a lot of crap fot every simple little thing you try to look at!

The internet security person we use told us to never follow an address found with a search. Said even IF you get to the site you want your info has been taken by numerous other sites on the way. Then you will get mountains of scams.
