Quick introduction and questions.

I’m Chuck, located eastern Nebraska, new to the vintage tractor world, and recently acquired an old 1954 Farmall 300. I’m loving the tractor and learning a ton. It’s a no power steering wide front axle row crop with front right and left hydraulic control as well as an additional hydraulic connection over the pto output.

Questions I have are about the loader and Paul Abbott Co. 2x3 adapter. I’m a retired auto technician/restoration technician and I plan on restoring the tractor. I’m the type that likes to use the restored equipment though so I’m going to clean up the implement/attachment situation.

With that, I will probably remove the trip loader altogether and replace it with an easily removable loader system that has hydraulic bucket tilt as well. I’ll also have a top link bracket fabricated to mount using the bolt holes over the pto output for additional mounting options. Post hole digging comes to mind. I figure between that and the OK tractor adapter for the fast hitch, I should be in pretty good shape.

Is there a market for these old loaders and the 2X3 adapters? I won’t have a need for them before long and there’s no sense being a pack rat with equipment that others might want.

Thanks ahead of time, I’ve spent a long time reading on the forum and it seems like there is a good group of people lurking around.

Chuck

Hello Chuck, welcome to YT!
Is there a market for these old loaders and the 2X3 adapters?
The answer is in Nebraska, not really. It seems if you were near one of the coasts particularly the eastern, there is more of a market for this kind of equipment that is better suited as a show piece. I’d say a price range of $100 - $500 it where you’re at. The Farmall x00 and x50 series are good tractors. Made a lot of square bales with the 300 and 350 we had on the KS farm I grew up on.

Good insight, thank you. Maybe I’ll look at restoring the loader as well then. There’s undoubtedly someone who would like it and I make annual trips to the east coast from Maine to Florida and everywhere in between. If there’s no way to make it fit my needs appropriately, I’d be happy to see someone else appreciating it for what it is.

I’m thrilled with the tractor and it’s going to serve me well. Since you mentioned it, I’ve been looking at bailing my pasture for the next couple years while we set up as a small hobby horse rescue/rehab ranch.

Maybe you are just into it for the “something to do part” I wouldn’t restore an old trip loader thinking there is some buyer out there flush with cash waiting to snatch it up. I would want a buyer and a price he is willing to pay before I would jump into this project. This site has “classified” maybe you could post it there to get a feeler there of the interest level.

It’s definitely the something to do part and not an investment. If I’m sitting on it and have free time at the same time, I’d consider making it look nnalert again. We’ll see what shakes out while I dig up my options. I just wish it was easier to take on and off but it’s not a nuisance to have. I use it pretty regularly to move things around and carry bulk trash out to the end of the driveway.

I’ll check out the classified section, thank you.

If you enjoy fab work convert the trip bucket to a hydraulic one. Loader is worth a little more now.
