Hi, I am replacing the fiber discs in the pto clutch pack. The new disc are thicker than the old ones. Does anyone have a measurement for the maximum thickness of the disc stack with out the springs in place. There was 7 discs and now 4 discs measure the same thickness. I do not want to assemble everything to discover that there is not enough space for the pto to dis-engage. Thanks, I hope this is not confusing. Tracy

Hi,
Have you checked with your supplier to ensure that you have the correct clutch discs for the 135? Are they genuine MF ones? Non-genuine may well be thicker.
Ensure that the piston is fitted correctly and fully seated. There are 3 holes around the outside of the drum. As you rebuild the unit and compress the wave springs, pins of 4mm or 0.16in should be fitted into the holes to keep the assembly in place.
If as you say 4 discs now equate to the thickness of the 7 then there is no way that you can fit them all. Go back to your supplier.

Is your machine English or North American built? What's the thickness of your discs?
Friction disc thickness (new), should be 2.5 m.m. for the English built model.
A slightly thinner disc is used on the later 300, 400 and 4200 series, which is 1.5 m.m. thick.
Let us know,
Evan.

Hi, My tractor is an American. I was able to some time to do some math and take a few measurements, what I found was that I should have about 4-5mm of piston travel with all of the new discs. And yes the new discs are 2.5mm thick. The old discs were the fiber type and the new ones are a semi-metalic looking, brassish. I think everything is going to be fine. I will probably be asking more questions later as this my first time I have rebuilt a complete hydraulic system. All parts have been received cleaned and prepped, assembly is next on the to do list. Thanks for advise. Tracy

A tip with assembling these packs. Try sliding a couple of tight fitting pin punches or equivalent thru the oil vent holes in the sides of the clutch drum, to "capture" the plates, as they are fitted to the drum. You will need to press down on the fitted plates to achieve this.
The wavy washers will tend to spread the plates while assembling, making it almost impossible to "fit" the last cover plate, and then refit the circlip.

Hi All, an update on my tractor, finally got enough time to finish assembly and final adjustments over the weekend. All went well, IPTO starts and stops, brake works, hasn't for 20 years. The lift works very well, smooth and strong enough to pick up a full bucket of gravel. I haven't had time to give the pto a good test yet, but I will be doing my firewood soon and will give it a good run on the wood cutter. Thanks for the help.
