IPTO slips / Heavier TDH.

Hi, I have a 135 with IPTO. When I use the snowblower for more than an hour, my pto will make a screeching sound when heavily loaded, but works well when cold. I installed new discs in the pto pack this past spring when I rebuilt the main pump thinking this was the issue, now I suspect the small pump is getting weak and loses pressure when the oil gets hot. I know it should be replaced or rebuilt but I hope to get through the rest of this winter before getting back into the trans/axle assy.Does anyone know if there is a heavier weight TDH oil or an acceptable alternative? Any tips or advise is greatly appreciated.

Which oil are you using? we always use' super tractor oil universal' 15w30 or 15w40 this is what MF recommends. You don't want to keep on slipping the plates as they will burn up and warp leaving the PTO that it will not disengage at all. I am not familiar with your IPTO system but some over this side have priority valves which can give some trouble if dirt gets in,possibly after a rebuild,. I am sure you have checked the filters? On some tractors there is a pressure maintaining valve along the oil cooler lines and on some it is on the input shaft housing at the front of the gearbox. This is meant to hold a steady back pressure on the IPTO pack and if it gets stuck up or worn it releases the pressure causing problems. I know cos I spent 3 days finding out! First I lost front wheel drive, then noticed the PTO running constantly and when I went to work hard it slipped. There was only 8000hrs on the tractor and we pulled it right down replaced the plates, pump and brake, just the same story, took it down again and replaced the complete IPTO hub, same story, finally split it at the clutch and found a sticky ball and spring valve.that was it!. All the old stuff has since been built into other tractors and is working away!!!

Samn40, I am using TDH, this is what my local dealer recommends. Is 15w40 ok to use in the hydro/trans and axle. Is it much heavier than TDH? What is the difference? I know lawn and garden hydrostatic transaxles use 20w50. My IPTO system is the same as the 165. The only part of the system I did not have apart and inspect was the small pump because I had found other issues which is what I thought was the problem, loose oil line fitting between the pump and control valve and worn discs.

We use the same oil in the engines as in the rear axles, That is what MF recommend in Britain. Many, many hours later doing custom work and no problems! You may have a leak in an internal oil line even after fitting a new one. Sometimes the steel to rubber pipe would burst causing your symptoms.

I am quite sure on a tractor that age the main pump is for the 3 point hitch and the auxiliary pump provides the pressure for the IPTO.
