Is this normal?

This winter I decided it was time to do some work on my 730, the starter ring gear was a mess, so I split the tractor, and found the flywheel and pressure plate were in bad shape too. So I found a good flywheel and had it machined and got all new clutch parts from a reputable source, and put it all back together, and things are all good,I had 4 or 5 hours on it and the clutch pedal started to vibrate and the clutch wouldn't disengage, I looked in the hand hole and saw a clutch adjusting bolt missing, bummer, time for a re split. I got a replacement pressure plate, and have it back together again. Now for the question,I've only replaced a few clutches, none with this adjusting set up, the bolts were only engaged in the threads a couple of turns, this doesn't look like a good setup, is this normal? Mike,

That looks like a very poor design. At the very least there should be jam nuts on those adjusting bolts to keep them from backing out. Don

just looked up a replacement PPA assembly from one of my suppliers and it does not show any bolts like such in a replacement, don't think that their suppose to be there, did the original one have those adjusting bolts?? send me an email and I can forward a photo.

Did the clutch on my 930 awhile back. I know it's not the same model, but is similar in design. It had the 3 small bolts on the levers. However, there were jamb nuts on those bolts and were threaded deeper. The levers were not split at the ends like yours. I image those splits act as some sort of friction or thread retaining system. Obviously didn't work.... Both the original 930 clutch and the case reman were of the same design, having the 3 bolts on the levers.

Thanks for the replies. I don't remember the other pressure plate being this design, I remember adjusting screws part way down the arm with a jam nut arrangement like the one I just put in, but don't remember for sure. This looks like it could work with longer bolts or some sort of jam nut arrangement. Mike
