Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

Okay, so I am rebuilding the hyd. top cover on my 1952 8N. I am going to be replacing the cylinder, so I ordered one from an ebay seller.
when I recieved it, I noticed that the inside of the cylinder is only the rough machined surface, ie, it is rough and coarse to the touch and
is certainly not polished smooth. Is this normal? I am going to put an NAA style piston in it.

NOPE. Should be smooth. doesnt have to shine like a chromed hyd cyl. Send it back.

I purchased one from this site that was pretty rough, I honed the heck out of it, been working for 6 years now. With an o ring, I would want it smooth as possible.

According to TOH Cylinder ID should be scratch free with a 16u RA or better finish.

That 16U surface finish is for o-rings. That cylinder is probably intended for OEM steel rings which would be more like an engine cylinder honed/cross hatch finish. Hard to judge what you cant see but If going with orings polish it up.
