I have a 420 JD lawn mower with an Onan engine, The crank shaft drive pulley is bad and I need to find one, its a double pulley 7 1/8 dia, I found one for $400, but the tractor isnt worth much more then that Has anyone got one? or know where I can get one? The splines are stripped in the pulley,

Judging from your statement that the pulley is "splined" I think you must be looking for the DRIVEN PTO pulley, and it's not on the "crank shaft".

I have good news...

If that doesn't work out I think I have a spare one for a "400" that's in decent shape. (Same pulley fits 400, 420, and 430.)

(quoted from post at 06:18:08 07/07/21) I sure hope you do have a used one and would sell it to me, How much would you charge for it?

First of all, I will look for it today and see if I can find it, I know I have one I bought for a spare some years ago and never used, HOPEFULLY, it's on the shelf where it should be.

It would mean a lot to me if you do have one and would sell it to me, I am in Michigan, near Battle Creek, where are you?

I'm about a thousand miles W N/W of you, it's not that heavy, though, and would fit in a flat rate box.

Another thought, if I can't find the one I have or it's badly worn (I bought it used on fleabay a LONG time ago and don't think I looked at it too closely before putting it on the shelf), it should be easy to machine out the worn splined center of your pulley and weld in a 1"-15 spline hub to make the pulley better than new.

A hub like that is easily obtainable.

I was going to count the number of splines, now I dont have to, thanks, I could bore mine out, like you said and weld, or braze a new one on, There isnt much meat around the bore,
but it has a hub on it, so put it in the lathe and make a step in it, but I hope yours is good, And thanks again

It said a 1.000 bore, I emailed them asking if a shaft that is 1.000 fits, I wasnt sure what they called the bore, I hope it fits, I have a lathe and this is a good way to fix it,
Thanks

I called to check on this, out of stock, She referred me to Baum Hydraulic and all they had was a high tensile one, and that I am sure cant be machined, He is going to call me back to see when the machinable one cant be had, Your used one is looking better and better,

No luck on finding the pulley yesterday. I found the box where I thought it was, the tightener pulley and some of the linkage is there, but no lower pulley, scratching my head about this, as I don't recall having gotten rid of it. Will look some more in the parts shed later today.
