hooked the super 6 up to the 10 'cockshut deep tillage this morning and give the old McCormick a good work out for an hr. my dad actually bought this cultivator new is the early 60's and pulled it with his W6 till he bought the 560 in 1967. i was using 2nd gear and it was a good load. i remember dad saying he would put it in low gear and pull it as deep as it would go at times. something about the gas exhaust smell also bringing back memories. i remember riding along with him at about 5 years old. come on the yard and pulled the plugs and checked the compression. plugs are burning nice , and compression is 100,95,100,110. i seen

it has firecrater pistons in it. pretty darn good for a tractor sitting for 20 years in the bush. not sure how much increase in psi with these compared to the flattops. but some others i have checked and it was like 75-80 psi. on other ones.

That is a clean running W6. I like it. We only had row crops and Utilities around. I did drive my brothers W-9 Industrial. Beast it is. Jim

Nothing against those who love their trailer queens, but nothing is more fun for me than taking a piece of old equipment, be it a tractor, cultivator machining tool, forge and the like, and having it do the work it was made to do. It's like a touchstone to the past.

That brings back memories! Dad's "big" tractor was a SW-6 and I have more than a few hours of seat time, mostly pulling a John Deere 3-16 plow.

Yes, it is a Super. Only the later Supers had the channel frame and the front wheels like that.

I think I would replace the 2nd plug from the top.

Yes, it is a Super. Only the later Supers had the channel frame and the front wheels like that.

the supers came out in 52, then in 53 they went to the channel frame , so in 53 you can have the tub frame super with 16' front tires or the channel frame super with 18' front tires. this one is the later 53 serial number over 8400. at 10,005 the TA model came out in 54. only 3005 TA models.

Shure are clean running plugs for unleaded gas .

They were pretty fouled up
From starting and stopping it. So this goes to show that a good workout does clean up plugs , as I hear so many complaints here about fouled plugs. As long as the engine is running at operating temp they clean them selves out under load ! That second plug is the same as the other 3 , it just how the plug is positioned in the photo.

I got a 6 but I liked the M's much better. Much more comfortable. I didn't keep it long. I think I had 14 different M's. I liked the brakes better then the disc brakes on the supers. Could go 3-4-5 years without adjustment, seemed I had to tear the disk brakes down at least once a year. I liked the '52 M's and H's, I put live hyd's on them to dump peppermint tubs. We used for a lot of lighter jobs, spray, spread fertilizer, move equipment around, pull wagons, etc. Back then you could buy one in decent shape for $5-$600. Then we moved on to 656 hydro and 3020 JD P.S....James

i have both models. i find the M's the most awkward thing to get on and off. nothing like the w wher u can basically jump on them M's you got to pull your self up with one hand on the steering wheel and hope u dont slip while stepping on the drawbar. real pain in the azz. the w6 i leaned to drive very early in life and by 9 years old i was discing in the field with it.
