It's Raining (Fords)

I'm putting in a shop and a barn and have about 1000 feet of trenching to do for water and electric. Low an behold, on craigslist pops up a 3000 trencher with a 6 way front blade. Diesel, runs good, no smoke or blow by, with power steering for $2500. I don't know the model number yet, but it has a straight front axle and wet brakes. Looks like it was yeller at some time. Wife's gonna kill me.

Mind if I come and take a few lessons from ya?
Bolt pattern on the wheels tells me it's a 4000 platform. Maybe a 4400 like Jim UT recently bought.
Nice score.

didn't it come with the operator pictured? if not maybe he could give lessons, if so video them and post for the rest of to learn along with you :)

Now why would the wife kill ya? It would cost about the same for you to buy the tractor and do the trenching as to have it done. But you keep the tractor at the end of the job!

Now, if you have too many tractors -- I would be glad to run down and remove it from your wife's evil glare -- for a very very small price!

Yeah, I thought about the cost of hiring it out angle with the wife. I suppose it's probably around $2 per foot for trenching these days, I should get a quote to make sure. That's almost like getting a free tractor, and I was going to spend the money anyway.... Wife says tractors will be a hobby till she sees as many go out as she sees come in. She's a lot smarter than me, I thought I was supposed to collect as many as I could get.

If the wife is gonna kill you anyway tell her you could save her a lot of funeral expenses if you trenched out your own grave with that tractor.
Of course you'll need to get it running good first...

Yep, looks kinda like my 4400. You paid less for your tractor, blade and trencher than I did for just the tractor! Good buy...especially since you need it.

If it runs good, she should kill you if you DON"T buy it at that price. If nothing else, get your trenching done and resell it. It wuold be listed for probably double that around here.

Yep, I saw your post when you bought this one, I like it... I bet you end up keeping it. I have a 4400 too, runs good, but gas. Did you ever get the power steering working well on this tractor?

This one is gas, too. P/S still feels a little stiff to me, but it steers easier than my 850 so I guess maybe it works. I tried to swap the front wheels to narrow the track width, but some of the front wheel studs are loose and just rotate when I put the wrench to the lugnuts. I didn"t feel like fighting that battle just now so I elected to leave it alone. I did swap the rear wheels so now it fits on my trailer.

My uncle may be interested in buying it. He"s been looking for something like this for awhile. I"ll have to tell him about the loose lugs first.

Tell her that if she does kill you I'll be glad to remove the evidence (but I'll need that tractor to do it with)Have fun with the new shed & tractor!

The reason I asked is that I tried putting a John Deere 3 pt auger on my tractor, it fit fine and drilled fine, but not enough power to pull it out of the ground. Tractor runs great, but arm on the auger was so long, I couldn't get any leverage power.

First time I used one, ended up screwing the 8N right to the ground. Trick is to pull it up and clear the hole , not drill all at once.
