j-d b opnion needed

looked at a j-d b at local car lot, guy says he bought it a local auction, {was selling for 5k on his web site}lol,, c-list shows pics only, header says sell-trade with no price, told me has 3k in it,, wants to sell for/donate to charity,,, has batt reversed, instead of pos grd,, wouldn"t start, carb flooding out, said had it running yeasterday.. what a joke of a dealer,, was going to offer $750>1k.. what do you think

Without knowing a whole lot about it beyond the pix, the tires look worth most of $1k.

If you can't run and drive it then walk. If he gets it running so you can actually test it out through the gears and clutch function and all is well then even as high as $1500. Restored with no faults and perfect paint , they only bring $3000- $3500.

That is a factory gas burner. It should have 4 ring high compression pistons. The smaller manifold without the heat jacket on the intake are also part of the factory gas burner setup along with the single fuel tank. Those engines had a clear ringing tone when pulling a compared to the all fuel engines which sounded like they were slobbering when they ran. It also produced a few more horsepower.

I sure don't know JD, but that looks to be the male end of a 3/8" pipe thread fitting just slipped over the end of a brass shutoff valve.... all it likes is the duct tape.
"ran yesterday" might mean it caught once and coughed and sputtered one time.

If he gave $3000 for it you are under no moral obligation to bail him out of his own bad judgement... Looks like a "drive by" paint job. Trying to dress up the pig, so to speak. It's still a pig. There are enough good B's out there for this money (and most of the time, less). If your $1000 offer won't buy it, let him stew. He'll either come down or find someone with more money than sense. To me, a tractor like this with a paint job LOSES value rather than increases it. I would rather see one in it's "working clothes". Mike

A car dealer had a 60 JD on the lot painted like a 620.When I pointed out to the salesman that it was a 60 and not a 620 he looked at the 60 on the tag and said that just meant it was a 60 series.

I seen a nice B sell locally for 850. Look around you can find a good deal.
