Asking because I don't know.

Does JD still require you to use a factory tech. On the newer equipment. Seems like a bad idea.

Do you have the computers to hook on to it when it has a computer problem or the thousands of dollars of special tools and the manuals?

I don't own anything. Just remember reading about the fact. That a John Deere dealer was the only one. That could work on them.Seems like a very bad idea. Seems like it would hurt sales. What if you had work that needed to be done. But the tech with the brain box was a week away.

It is becoming that way on nearly every make. I have a fleet of semi trucks and heavy equipment that requires software to perform repairs. We have Cummins, CAT, Detroit, Eaton, and JD software, and it costs a fortune to update subscriptions each year or quarter depending on the brand. The OEM's are keeping a tight rein on it as well. It used to be where you could go purchase CAT ET, and it would work on all their products. Now they require serial numbers of owned equipment, and if you violate that by using it on someone else equipment, then a dealer mechanic comes out at some point and notices your service tool was used on it, they do not renew your subscription. It is total BS!
