I bought an old JD#10 square baler that had been sitting for years. Baled about 90 bales with it on Saturday and it never missed even one. I was impressed. What it does do however is about every fifteen or so bales, the knives don't cut clean and there are two bales properly tied, but stuck together.

Where do I start to fix this. Is this a sharpness issue, an adjustment issue, or a just plumb worn out kind of issue. What do I look for first...and no, I don't have a manual.

I would think it is an issue with timeing of the baler or hay dogs. You might need to retime needles so that they come up closer to the front of the plunger. Not familiar with the #10 but that is usually the issue rather than knife sharpness.

Sounds like a problem with your knives.Clean out the bale chamber and roll the plunger back until the knives just start to pass each other and check the clearance between.Should be .008 to .010 Also check for side to side wear on your plunger by prying to one side and then the other.also check for sharpness of knives.
