JD 1250 corn planter

I am getting a JD 1250 corn planter from Connecticut and needed to know if it has plates or is plateless, so I can order the seed. The person selling it to me doesn't know. Any help please?

I had one 25 years ago and it seems that they can be either way. Mine was plate though and yours probably is also. Tell the person who has it to pop box off and check. Its easy to tell apart. There are two spring clips after you take the box off and it will open and plate will come out.

Got to thinking again and I'm almost positive the 1250 has to be plate. I know the 7000 can be either way and had one of those too.

depends on i belive it was an option cause i have had a plated one and i now have a plate less one for sale in southwestern indiana for $900

The 1250 could be either way. The finger pick-up was nothing new to deere by the time the 7000 came out. The thing that made the 7000 so popular was the Tru-Vee opener instead of the runner type opener. I also think that the units were also simpler to use and set up. We still sell just as many parts for 7000s as we do the newer planters.

We bought one new back then, they came ether way but most didn't trust the new platless version yet, they were a bit different than the modern plateless one we have now, seemed that they had a band that went around the finger area that gave a problem, seed dust would build up and push this band out and the fingers would drag on it, if I remember right..most of them around here were plate style. They also had an iratateing marker trip system, that would drive my dad crazy...

Dominic, it's pretty easy to tell the difference. If it has round hoppers it is a plate planter. If they are rectangular it is plateless. Mike
