JD 1530 gages not working

I just bought a 1974 John Deere 1530. I am new to tractors and I am trying to fix many of the small things wrong with the tractor that are functional problems. One of these is the gages do not work, specifically the tachometer, I have not ran it enough to tell if the temp or fuel gages work. My question is where do I start?

The 1530 has a mechanical tach. Start by checking to see if the cable that drives it is turning when the engine is running. Disconnect it from the tach and look at the inner cable. If the cable is turning it is likely the tach is broken.

If you plan on working on and keeping this tractor the first thing to do is to invest in the Operator's Manual (JD # OML29382) and Technical Manual (TM4280) for it. Here is a link to the online JD parts catalog (PC4133) you can use for free.

Thank you , I bought the owner’s manual. I have not bought the tech manual. I was not sure if I needed both. Also have only had the tractor 2 days so I am really trying to figure out a lot right now. Mainly the gages and the fuel leak.
