JD 1530 Gear Shift/Cover Replacement

I am in the process of replacing the AR61916 (T30753) Cover on a JD 1530. The reason I am replacing it is because the left shifter socket is worn to where shifting is becoming difficult to the point of it locking up. I was able to locate a replacement but the replacement has the Hi-Lo valve installed where the original does not. I proceeded to make the swap anyway and included the T30752: Plate in the swap. After replacing the cover I ended up not having any hydraulics (lift/power steering). At this point I figured it may have something to do with the presence of the Hi-Lo valve still installed on the replacement, because that is the only thing that is different with the swap. I pulled the cover back off and proceeded to remove the valve, but cannot figure out how to do it. There is a plug on the outer housing of the cover that appears I have to remove to remove to extract this valve. If this is what is required how is this plug removed?

All the oil from the transmission pump. Is being currently diverted back to the sump.
The front pump only receives filtered oil from the transmission . After the transmission is lubricated, the high low satisfied, if so equipped. The Independent PTO/brake if so equipped. Then what oil is left after the transmission system is pressurized to 145psi. Any excess oil flows to the front pump, storage tank and hydraulic oil cooler.

Thanks. Appreciate the info so now I know that valve has to be removed. Now I just need to figure out how to remove that plug. Once I do that then I will remove the valve, move T30788: One-Hole Straight Drilled Pin (8) from the original cover over to the replacement and cap it with a new plug.

If I was replacing regular shift cover with a Hyd hi-lo shift cover I'd remove the plate & plug/weld both holes closed in plate associated with hyd hi-lo that the 2 tubes fit into that operate hi-lo

hello,, looking at your picture, the old cover has a plug in place of the hi lo valve, you have to remove that pin// plug and install it in place of the hi lo valve. this pin has a small spring pin driven thru it, 34H231,, 3/32 X 3/4 size,, with the hi lo valve in place without the oil tubes plugged in under neath the trans oil is just spilling into the trans. sump. I am OLD school at this sooo,, do not have a smart phone to send or receive pictures..

Thanks grwrench. I finally got the plug out. I thought that was going to be the easy part. Things went downhill when I broke the roll pin almost flush with the plug while trying to extract it. Ended up having to cut, grind and pry around it to remove it. The old cover was shot anyway as it could not support the left gearshift assembly anymore due to wear. Just got a couple of roll pins in and will put everything back together next week.
