JD 2010 hydraulic Lift problem

I've got a 1961 John Deere 2010. First let me thank all the folks that responded to my previous messages on different topics. Lots of great help to get my tractor running. Problem now: my tractor set up for about a year or so outside but covered. the hydraulic lift was up during the time it set up. I put Hydraulic fluid in (2 gallons) till it was full. i let the lift down but it would not come back up. Once i ran it for about 15 minutes--sitting still--i checked the hydraulic fluid but it looked a little milky--i guess water got in. So i know i need to change the fluid a few times. Any thoughts on my lift problem I would appreciate it. thanks

Hyd screen probably needs a good cleaning utilizing a solvent & air. If one sets clean filter in pan with open end up then pour Hyd oil in filter if oil runs out freely it's clean enough if oil doesn't run out freely continue cleaning

thanks Jim, where is the hyd screen located?

Screen is located on RH side of tractor held in place by a 3 cornered plate held in place by 3 bolts. When filling trans with oil full level is at the bottom of threads that check plug screws into.

thanks Jim, i found it. the lift did start working today. i've only started the engine a few times in the last few days since it set up for over a year. I will drain the fluid, clean the screen and put new fluid in it. again, thanks for your help

Jim the filter looked bad. what is the best solvent to use to clean it? Also, the manual said it takes 8 gallons but about 10 came out--is that strange? thanks mark
