JD 2010 Stuck PTO Lever

I have a 1962 JD 2010 (gas) tractor. Today, after mowing a few acres (Woods finishing mower 540 rpm), I refueled and restarted the tractor. When engaging the PTO lever, the lever moved forward, but the PTO didn't engage (stub shaft connected to mower didn't rotate), and now the lever won't return to the disengaged position. I removed the mower and can turn the stub shaft freely by hand. I'm afraid I'll be removing the rockshaft housing and PTO clutch assembly, but I'm hoping there is an easier fix. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

common problem... a roll pin sheared in the linkage down near the shaft, you got to pull the whole rockshaft and all off... not fun at all.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for a quick (and easy!) repair, but appear to be out of luck. I've got my shop manual and tools ready to go - looks like I know what I'm doing the next few days :(

I just thought of something... I wonder if you can use anything stronger than the roll-pin. Maybe loctite a cut off grade 8 bolt in the place of the roll pin.

Use a Spirol pin or drive a smaller roll-pin inside the first roll pin. Then, finish with a piece of stiff wire inserted through the little pin, and wrapped around the lever end/shaft, and secured with a twist.

Just follow the book and it isn't too bad to do.
Glad I had borrowed a book for the one I fixed.
It gave the location of a few hidden bolts, under anoter plate or something ? to remove as to get the rockshaft assy. off.
I used a sprial roll pin too in place of the regular kind. they aren't very big.

There's two 3/8" bolts at the rear right, inside the "hole" that's opened up when you remove the seat support. If you lift the left cover WITHOUT removing the 2 hidden bolts, the internal hydraulic supply tube will be "killed". I repaired one for a "do-it-yourselfer" who mangled the tube, so make sure to find and remove those two capscrews.
